What does a travel credit look like using this unique program design?
Pre-Trip
· Students meet at a location to be determined for 5 days with a teacher to investigate places and experiences of interest that will enhance their course
· Students will have an opportunity to discover their learning styles through a variety of activities. These results will help them to plan activities and assessments that will allow them to be successful.
· With the support of the teacher, they will build their course outline, assessments and rubrics using curriculum documents, exemplars and useful templates.
· Students will research their destination and plan to attend events, attractions, etc. that will provide them with the knowledge, skills and understanding to complete their assessments
· They will prepare a calendar, which will detail important dates for activities as well as deadlines for completion of their work. Deadlines will be negotiated and designed for individual needs.
During the Trip
· Students will complete a learning journal on a daily basis, which helps them to track their progress and manage their time effectively. The teacher will review these journals each day.
· Students will have researched their destinations and will have mapped out the activities and attractions that they will attend to support their learning.
· Students may work on their laptops during travel time or in the evening if they choose.
· Workshops and other community building activities may take place on the bus as well as part of the morning or evening activities as a larger group.
· Individual assessment conferences will be arranged between the student and the teacher to take place throughout the day.
· Opportunity to achieve volunteer hours by intimately interacting with local communities and having a lasting social impact
Post Trip
· Students will again meet at a location to be determined for two to three days to complete their summative evaluations. These may be in the form of presentations, tests, exams, etc. which have previously been established in the course outlines.
· Teachers will then prepare final reports to be sent home and to the TDSB for processing. The TDSB will then forward your credit to your appropriate board and school.
